🌾 Our Story
Welcome to La Codorniz Ranch, where desert dreams take root. We’re working towards becoming a family-owned regenerative farm project located in the high desert of Datil, New Mexico. What began as a vision on five acres of rugged land has grown into a mission: to create a self-sustaining, community-focused farm that honors culture, feeds families, and heals the land.
Our dream is to build adobe-style farmhouses and tiny guest dwellings, raise animals that support closed-loop systems, and grow foods that nourish both body and spirit. From chickens, quail, and goats to heirloom corn, hibiscus, and vegetables, every part of the farm will connect — feeding families through CSA boxes (with SNAP/EBT access), local farmers markets, and eventually schools and community programs.
But our farm will be more than a place to grow food. We plan to host community events, internship programs, farmstays, and hands-on workshops where people of all ages can learn about regenerative farming, adobe building, traditional foods, and sustainable living. We want La Codorniz Ranch to be a hub of culture, education, and community connection.
Datil may be a challenging place to farm, but it is also a place full of sun, history, and resilience. By combining traditional Pueblo and Mexican practices with modern regenerative techniques, we’re proving that farming in the desert is not only possible but beautiful, abundant, and sustainable.
Our mission is simple: grow food, build community, and honor tradition — one adobe brick, one seed, and one story at a time.
We haven’t moved to the ranch in New Mexico yet. Right now, we’re still living on our 7-acre place in Texas while we save and prepare. But we do already have some of the basics waiting for us which are two cabins on the property that will serve as our first shelter when we relocate.
To actually live and begin working there, though, we still need a few critical systems. We need a simple solar-power setup, a rainwater harvesting system, and more water containers so we can haul and store water in the early months. Our farm vehicle also needs repairs and to be insured and registered before it can handle the demands of rural life and supply hauling. And to begin producing food right away, we need to put up both a greenhouse and a hoop house.
The $50,000 we are working to save and raise will cover these essential needs and allow us to finally make the move, get established on the land, and begin bringing La Codorniz Ranch to life.
🐦 Meet Cordi – Our Spokesquail
Every farm needs a friendly guide, and ours is Cordi the Quail! Inspired by the Gambel’s quail that thrive here in the Southwest, Cordi represents resilience, community, and joy. With her bright eyes, pueblo-style fashion, and playful personality, she’s here to tell our story in a way that’s fun and welcoming.
Think of Cordi as our farm’s voice and spirit. She’ll pop up on our website, YouTube channel, and social media to walk you through farm updates, share educational tips, and cheer on every milestone. From explaining how a CSA works to showing off new baby chicks, Cordi makes the farm feel personal, approachable, and a little whimsical.
She’s more than a mascot — she’s part of our family, a reminder that even in the desert, life can flourish with care and community.
